Chromatic Memories

Having grown up “on the road,” this series is Chacha’s ode to the endless nostalgia for the open road.

Chacha’s life has been one long journey. Born in California to French-American parents, she was just a month old when her family drove from California to Panama, bought a sailboat, and sailed halfway across the world. While travel was constant, a significant part of Chacha’s childhood was spent in Mexico, where she learned Spanish and developed a deep love for magical realism in both literature and art.

Both the film photographs and her writing hint at magic just beneath the surface, blurring the edges of reality and memory to create something otherworldly. Fragments of Chacha’s journals are then intervened onto the photographs with pastel, creating a layered, tactile experience - a reverent exploration of the eternally homesick: those who have no single place to call home, but rather a few special people and places that together form the feeling of belonging.
